RouterOS Command Reference
A practical, independently written reference for RouterOS CLI commands, organized by task rather than by menu path. Every command shown here is verified against current RouterOS documentation, with RouterOS v7 as the primary syntax and v6 differences called out where they matter.
This reference is not a copy of MikroTik’s official CLI documentation — it’s our own explanation of the commands we get asked about most by customers activating a new license. For the complete, exhaustive command tree, see the official MikroTik CLI reference.
Available Categories
We’re expanding this reference over time. These categories are live now:
IP Address
Assigning, viewing, and removing IP addresses on an interface — the first command most new installs need.
SecurityFirewall Filter
Building filter rules in the correct chain, and the mistakes that lock admins out of their own router.
WISPPPPoE Server
Setting up a PPPoE server for subscriber authentication — core to most WISP deployments.
MaintenanceBackup & Export
The difference between a binary backup and a script export, and when to use each one.
SystemRouterOS Upgrade
Checking, downloading, and applying a RouterOS package upgrade from the CLI.
LicensingLicense
Viewing your Software ID and importing a purchased license key from the terminal.
⚠ Before running any command from this reference
Always confirm the command against your own RouterOS version and configuration before running it on a production router. Commands that change firewall rules, IP addressing, or routing can disconnect active sessions or lock out remote management if run incorrectly. Where a command is destructive, we say so explicitly before the example.
